”Beam me up” suite for ICEHOTEL #23 ready!

Finally mine and Karl-Johan Ekeroth’s suite at the ICEHOTEL is done! The suites title is Beam me up, and it took about 3 weeks in the ice cold environment to build!

It has again been an amazing experience up here in Jukkasjärvi with the best people in the world, and even though my sore body really wants me to go back home, I already long for next opportunity to come back here!. Thank you ICEHOTEL with all it’s amazing staff and artists, it has been a wonderful time!

If you happen to pass Jukkasjärvi, north of the arctic circle in Sweden, before the ICEHOTEL melts in April 2013, make sure to check out Beam me up! Watch out, the ufos are coming!

Finally at ICEHOTEL

So, I have not updated here as often as I planned to. But right now I am at ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, building the suite ”Beam me up” together with Kalle Ekeroth. It´s my second time to visit this amazing place in Lapland, 200 km north of the Arctic circle, but this time the conditions are way better than last year. Then we came up to a rainy Lapland where we didn´t even know if we would be able to build anything at all. In the end we did manage to make a great suite, but this year the conditions couldn´t be better. Snow, ice and tempratures way below zero every day. On this blog I will update with stills from the place, the people and the progress. I will also update the photo section of this website. Please enjoy!

IKEA MILDRA

If you haven´t seen it yet, check out the carafe that I have designed for IKEA of Sweden at the IKEA’s website, and read more about the project in my portfolio! The carafe’s name is MILDRA and can be bought separately or together with the glass MILDRA by Jozephine Duker.

The carafe/decanter comes in three colors, and came out in the range earlier this fall. And from what I´ve heard it´s selling really well all over the world! Do you like it?

On my way to Helsingborg today for an exiting design project. As much as I love to work at the office, I really think the travelling is one of the big benefits with this job. To see new places, meet new people, and be able to bring office around makes every day more exiting. It doesnt really matter if it’s Helsingborg or Tokyo, I just like to work at different places! What I’ll do today? Its secret, but the result will be shown here eventually!

ICEHOTEL 2012-2013

Working in ice at the ICEHOTEL 2011

In about three weeks I will leave together with my colleague Karl-Johan Ekeroth for the winter wonderland in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, to build a new amazing suite at the 23:d edition of the ICEHOTEL! Last year, wich was my first time going there, we built the suite Kraken’s Lair, that was very appreciated. So we were chosen to come again this year, something I´m really exited about since last year was an amazing experience.
The suite we will buld this year will also be a playful contribution to the hotel design, with the title ”Beam Me Up”! Please check our one of the sketches that is featured at the ICEHOTEL blog!

As you can see, a new website is up at Strömqvist Design. The old website didn´t live up to my expectations, so now I´m working on this new design. This one will work better at smartphones and tablets, and make it easier to follow my adventures through the blog and social media. Keep watching for new updates!
